The eight songs from Flower Power! are in a variety of styles, encourage dance and movement and are accessible to all; some songs are very simple for younger children, some offer two part singing and extension for older children. Singing helps children to develop breath control, memory skills, promotes physical as well as mental wellbeing and, most importantly, it’s fun!
The three instrumental tracks can be used to encourage creative activities in music and dance as well as to support mindfulness and relaxation time.
Burton & South Derbyshire College of Further Education Work Experience - Friends of Flower Power Book
Flower Power Book is delighted to have worked with Performing Arts Students from Burton & South Derbyshire College during 2023 and 2024. The learners were invited to create songs to connect the messages that they saw in the Flower Power! story with children, including older children and teenagers; the learners chose to focus on the theme of resilience. Working with their tutor, Mr Oliver Wright, the learners went above and beyond to create the following songs; they also performed their own dramatisation of the story to children at a nursery school and to primary school children.

The story of Flower Power! can be performed as a ‘dramatico-musical’ work (where music is combined with dramatic action). Children can speak the narration as soloists or collectively; alternatively, a teacher or older pupil can read the narration. A full performance can include solo singing, simple two-part singing, percussion, musical improvisation, dance, mime and movement.
Approximate performance length: 40 minutes.
