Friends

Thank you very much indeed to all of our friends, encouragers and supporters of Flower Power Book – all of the children, teachers, librarians, parents, individuals, organisations and companies who have helped in some way, shape or form to bring our project this far – to you, today. We are working hard to bring our gallery up to date, but in the meantime you can meet some of our friends here!

Simon Hawksworth is truly a founding father to Flower Power Book; for years, Simon has helped Caroline with all of the graphic design elements of setting up the original picture storybook, the musical score and all of the resources. Simon has freely given hundreds of hours of his time to project Flower Power Book, and continues to support us with quiet, steadfast encouragement and unfailing wisdom. There are no words of thanks that can ever express our gratitude to Simon – quite possibly Flower Power Book would not be here today without his help and encouragement. Thank you, Simon 🙂

Liz Gardener, Stock Services and Activities Officer, Burton on Trent & Staffordshire Libraries and Arts Service, encouraged Caroline to develop the education resources that accompany the Flower Power! picture storybook. Liz believed in Caroline’s vision for the project in the early days when she was struggling to get going with it, and she has been a constant source of support, advice and a believer in Flower Power Book ever since. Liz once said, ‘When people come into contact with Flower Power! they become part of it – it’s theirs.’ Liz, Flower Power Book is certainly yours – we could not have got this far without you. Thankyou very much indeed!

Thank you to Beth Harding and her team at Ashbourne Library, Derbyshire, for their support of Flower Power Book; we have enjoyed taking workshops to this lovely library. Caroline sends heartfelt thanks to Beth who advised her, many years ago, to create the huge flower on the last page of the story by turning the book vertically – children love this surprise at the end of the story! This illustration shows the growth of the little flower from the beginning of the story in a way that young children can easily understand. Beth, your idea is helping lots of children everywhere to believe that they can ‘stretch, smile and grow’ and we sincerely thank you very much indeed!

It is a delight to work with Performing Arts Students and Staff from Burton & South Derbyshire College, who have made a significant contribution to our resources for children, schools and families during the Work Experience Project which ran from March to June 2023. We are looking forward to working with students from the College in the new Academic year, from September 2023 – thank you very much to everyone involved in the project ‘You’ve Got the Power!’

Pictured here, dressed as the ‘little flower’, giving a ‘One Person Show’ performance of the Flower Power! story to children at Burton on Trent library in May 2023, Mr Oliver Wright, Performing Arts Tutor at Burton & South Derbyshire College, goes above and beyond in his support of Flower Power Book as well as his students. Thank you, Oly!

It is entirely fitting for Jane Hill to be surrounded by flowers in this image because she encouraged and provided Caroline with lots of information to help her complete Flower Power Book’s Registered Charity application and remains a firm friend to Flower Power Book; Jane is always there ready to freely share her expertise and advice, and always wants to know how we are – thank you very much indeed, Jane!

Vince Wilson, Service Operations Manager at Astra Zeneca, is running the New York Marathon with our lovely Trustee, Wendy Leiter, with the aim of getting as many books as possible to children in care settings. New to running, Vince is the message of Flower Power! in motion – he is inspiring and encouraging everybody around him and supporting Flower Power Book to help children at the same time. Thank you very much indeed, Vince – ‘Go, Vince – you can do it!’
