Copyright & Licensing
Whilst it is a legal requirement for schools to comply with copyright
law, Flower Power Book aims to make the process of compliance as simple as
possible. The guidelines below explain the most common copyright and licensing
issues.

1: Performing Flower Power! as a musical
If you are planning to perform Flower Power! in dramatic/musical form, or to record the performance or songs in any way, you need to apply directly to Flower Power Book for a Performing Rights Licence (valid for 12 months from purchase). Flower Power! is covered by international copyright law known as ‘Grand Rights’. The ‘Block’ licences which your school may have do not cover performances of musicals, licences for which are only available from publishers.
Performing Flower Power! without permission from Flower Power Book is illegal. Some teacher resource packages available at Flower Power Book already include a Performing Rights Licence.
If your purchase does not include a Performing Rights Licence or you purchase the book and decide to perform Flower Power! in dramatic/musical form at a later date, you can order a licence directly from the Flower Power Book; a Flower Power Book Performing Rights Licence currently costs £12.99.
2: Performing the songs
If you are a school and have an arrangement with the Performing Rights Society (PRS) directly, or through your local authority, please declare your performance of songs to PRS. If you are an organisation or individual who does not have an arrangement with PRS but would like to perform the Flower Power Book songs please contact us at info@flowerpowerbook.co.uk with details of your planned performance and/or recordings.
3: Photocopying, Reproduction and File-Storage
You are free to use Flower Power Book resources anywhere in your school for teaching purposes.
Worksheets: Purchased downloadable worksheets can be photocopied for teaching purposes in your classroom.
Song Lyrics: Flower Power Book includes a set of song lyrics for use in the classroom with every teacher option purchase.
A Performing Rights Licence is required for all other types of usage – please see section 5 Performing Rights Licence.
Making printed copies or photocopies of the Flower Power Book Musical Score for use in the classroom is covered by your Schools Printed Music Licence (SPML) and Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) licences. You should report your usage when requested by the licence issuers.
Flower Power Book is keen to support you, the teacher in the classroom, as much as possible and encourage the children in your care. Flower Power Book respectfully asks that you respect its copyright; please do not share your purchased files with others; unauthorised file sharing is illegal.
If intellectual copyright, which is protected by law, is not respected and royalties not paid, this harms the potential for Flower Power Book CIO Foundation to achieve its charitable aims to help children with the proceeds of its sales and produce more books and music in future.
4: Collective Worship
Reproducing the lyrics of songs or projecting the lyrics of songs in assemblies
and copying the music scores for use in assemblies are covered by
your school’s CWCL and CWMRL licences from CCLI. Please report your usage
of the Flower Power Book songs and music to CCLI when you submit your annual
return to them.

If you are an individual or organisation and do not have CCLI licence please contact Flower Power Book at info@flowerpowerbook.co.uk to obtain the correct licence for Collective Worship usage.
5: Flower Power Book Performing Rights Licence
The Flower Power Book Performing Rights Licence allows you to:
- Give a public performance of Flower Power! the Musical to an audience other than teachers and staff, whether free or paid at your school.
- Install Flower Power! song lyrics on multiple computers in your school for use in school only.
- Give a public performance of individual songs (without the performance of the scripted drama) if you hold a valid PRS licence.
- Install Flower Power! Song lyrics on multiple computers in your school.
- Play the audio tracks (either backing or vocal tracks) at the performance.
- Undertake any number of performances of Flower Power! in dramatico-musical format for the duration of 12 months from the date of purchase of your performance licence.
- PLEASE NOTE: this licence does not cover the performance of individual songs in public – please register your usage with the Performing Rights Society (PRS)
- PLEASE NOTE: a separate recording licence is required if you wish to make audio and/or DVD recordings of individual songs or a complete dramatico-musical performance – please see below for details.

6: Uploading sound/video clips of your performances of Flower Power! onto public websites and YouTube.
This is allowed on condition that the following is clearly stated:

Please note that Flower Power Book’s original recordings can only be used as an accompaniment to your children singing.
7: Sound/Video/DVD recording licence
If all or part of Flower Power! the musical is recorded, a recording licence is required; this includes schools and organisations making multiple copies for parents.
